Jeff Bezos, Amazon
Jeff Bezos is known as an intense individual. When he isn’t running Amazon, he’s a globetrotting, super fit, tech billionaire. Though he’s stretched in many different directions, somehow he always finds time to get back to his best mattress for a full eight hours.
“Eight hours of sleep makes a big difference for me, and I try hard to make that a priority,” Bezos said in a recent interview. “For me, that’s the needed amount to feel energized and excited.”
It’s not just because Bezos loves to snooze, or needs the warm comfort of his best mattress. He feels that sleeping gives him the best opportunity to make good decisions and stay creative.
Making a small number of key decisions well is more important than making a large number of decisions,” Bezos said. “If you shortchange your sleep, you might get a couple of extra ‘productive’ hours, but that productivity might be an illusion.”
Sheryl Sandberg, Facebook
When Sheryl Sandberg isn’t innovating for facebook, she’s making sure her, and her employees are using their time wisely: to sleep on the best mattress available. Sandberg doesn’t just look out for herself, she feels that it’s vital for companies to protect their employees’ valuable sleep time.
“It’s incumbent upon all of us who run companies, and all of us, to make sure that people can make ends meet and have the ability to get a good night’s sleep,” she said in a recent interview.
“So many people out there, so many single mothers and others, work multiple jobs, and we don’t have the safety net we need for people to make sure that they can take care of their own health, and that we help take care of them,” she added.
Bill Gates, Microsoft
Bill Gates used to be in the camp that avoided their sleep at all cost — even when they could afford the best mattress. Gates changed his tune and has become one of sleep’s biggest evangelists.
“I used to work all night in the office, but it’s been quite a while since I lived on catnaps,” Gates said in a recent Microsoft FAQ. “I like to get seven hours of sleep a night because that’s what I need to stay sharp and creative and upbeat.”
It’s obvious now that the biggest successes in tech all make sure to get their full eight hours of rest. It’s more than vanity, or a luxury, it’s a vital component of keeping their minds sharp while growing their business. With attitudes like this, hopefully, people will see the best mattress for what it is, a tool for better business practices.
